Plate - Bouquets of flowers appear in Chagall's life from his meeting with his future wife Bella around 1909. 

The painter represents them in his work as he discovers them, often already assembled and arranged in a vase. These are not wild flowers in their natural context, they were picked and brought to the home and workshop. He admired them, soaked them before representing them in painting as if to give body to his imagination and his inner universe.
